Did you know? From birth to age 3, your child’s brain is developing more rapidly than at any other time. In fact, more learning is taking place now than at any other stage of development.

This is why we created our Nido, or ‘nest’ in Italian, and it is the perfect nurturing environment for infants aged 2-17 months old. In these formative years, their mind is like a sponge, soaking up huge amounts of information from their environment. This is when children develop their sense of self and their sense of their place in the world.

It is very important to support them in this stage of growth. During this phase, your child is absorbing huge amounts of information from the environment This is why, daily in the Nido, our trained teachers focus on creating a peaceful, supportive and safe environment.

Montessori for Infants is about:

Talking and responding to our babies
Setting up a safe and stimulating environment for them
Nurturing their natural curiosity and drive for independent exploration
Providing consistent and expert care for every step of their development
Individualized learning experiences for each child
Starting good nutrition and eating habits early

Much like Montessori for older children, our teachers observe their charges daily and tailor an individual learning experience for each infant. At this stage, learning objectives include developing skills in language, concentration, problem solving, visual discrimination and physical coordination. We are building a foundation for learning when they are older – the better the foundation, the better it will be for the child as they progress!

We have witnessed Jayce’s growth in many aspects while he attended the Nido Programme. He amazes us on a daily basis with his speech and daily skills ability. Jayce is able to recognise his work which we showcase at home. At 17.5 months old, he initiates his desire to self-feed during meal time at home. This is all credit to his teachers in the Boisterous Bear class! His teachers also kept us informed on their plan to help Jayce transition to the Playgroup class and routine—such as keeping him engaged in activities to help him drop morning nap, which he succeeded at! They brought him to the Playgroup class to have a feel of the routine and environment when he was 17months old, and I was glad to know that he enjoys being there.

I was about to go back to work, and was looking for a good, caring and nurturing environment, which I can trust to leave my son for the day. It was also very important to me that the school and the teachers were listening to my preferences and concerns, whether it be about weaning, sleep schedule or general daily routine. Ongoing communication with the teachers and regular updates is very important as well. I also appreciate the balanced nutritious meal plan the school has, so that I do not have to worry about Leon missing out on the healthy food while at school.
